Faculty in the College of Professional Advancement believe that technology and web enhanced learning opportunities are effective in increasing student engagement and in deepening student learning. To that end, many faculty members in the College incorporate web based learning tools, including course management systems such as Canvas and Moodle, blogs, and Wiki’s within traditional face-to-face courses.
Distance learning courses and programs make Mercer University and the College of Professional Advancement accessible to more students. The University ensures that faculty members who teach distance learning courses have extensive knowledge of distance teaching and learning.
The College of Professional Advancement offers six undergraduate degree-completion programs, two graduate degree programs, a graduate certificate program, and a number of general education, elective, and major courses in a completely online format. Students have the flexibility to choose among face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online courses as they complete their degree programs.
University Definition of Distance Learning
Distance learning is when the majority (more than 50%) of the instruction occurs when the student(s) and instructor(s) are not in the same place. Fully online programs and courses are taught 100% online and do not require on-campus class meetings. Hybrid programs and courses meet on-campus and online and offer a blend of the two environments. Both online and hybrid courses may require regularly scheduled virtual class meetings or proctored final exams.
