Dr. Fei earned his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology and D.E.A. (Master of Research) in Physiology from Jean Monnet University in Saint-Étienne, France. He earned the M.B.B.S. from Zhenjiang University School of Medicine and completed residency training in Hainan General Hospital, the top teaching hospital in China’s Hainan Province. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Pharmacology Department at Marshall University, where he carried out research on obesity and oxidative stress. Dr. Fei also was a postdoctoral associate in the Physiology and Pharmacology Department at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia and conducted research on smooth muscle cells modulation and PDGF-bb/TGFbeta effect in cellular phenotypes. Dr. Fei taught anatomy and physiology and general biology at Georgia State University and Lanier Technical College prior to coming to Mercer. While at the University of Georgia, he was an instructor in the Summer Research Internship for Minority Students program, and at Marshall, he mentored undergraduate students in capstone research projects. Dr. Fei recently was content expert and mentor for Collaboration and Multi-Disciplinary Team Science at Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance.

Research and professional interests

Dr. Fei’s research focuses on obesity, aging-related diseases such as metabolic syndromes and cardiovascular diseases. He is first author on 10 peer-reviewed journal articles on topics such as ADAR1-mediated RNA editing, microRNA regulation of adipose derived stem cells and gene splice site mutationinduced cardiomyopathy. He is an editor for the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Cardiology and ad-hoc reviewer for various peer-reviewed journals, including the International Journal of Cardiology, American Journal of Physiology — Heart and Circulatory Physiology, and Clinical and Experimental Medicine
