Cultivate a desire for lifelong learning
Mercer University seeks to prepare students to be innovators in teaching, learning, research, scholarship, and service. The general education curriculum is broad and covers several areas. General education courses are an integral part of undergraduate education and are designed to:
- Introduce students to a range of fields and areas of study
- Prepare students to fully embrace the mission of the University
- Inform students about the social, historical, cultural, intellectual, and spiritual forces that shape the contemporary world
- Instill broader perspectives and empower students to find full and rich citizenship in a world in which cultures, social institutions, and technologies intersect
The general education curriculum prepares students to contribute constructively and meaningfully to society and fulfills the University’s mission of educating the whole person. These values provide a foundation for disciplined study, leading to the lifelong learning mindset specific to the general education curricula.
The College of Professional Advancement provides the general education courses for various schools and colleges at Mercer University. Individual schools and colleges may also include additional core requirements. Students should review the requirements of their respective college to determine which courses are needed for graduation.
