Dr. Upshaw has held a post-doctoral fellowship and a faculty position at Spelman College. She worked in the Laboratory of Behavioral Neuroscience at Georgia State University to complete several published research projects that explored the relationship between neurotransmitters and gonadal hormones in the brain, and how they regulate behavior. These studies were presented at national and international conferences, including the Conference on Reproductive Behavior, the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting, and the Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology Annual Meeting. The studies were published in the Journal of Neuroendocrinology, the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Brain Research, Peptides, and Cell and Tissue Research.
